Police Arrest 28-Year-Old with 98 Parcels of Suspected Cannabis in Tamale

Tamale – The Ghana Police Service’s Special Operation Team has arrested a 28-year-old man, Mohammed Alhassan, for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs in Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

According to Northern Regional Police PRO Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, officers seized 98 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis during the raid.

The arrest followed a tip from the Tamale Taskforce, which had earlier detained another suspect, Hashim, found with the exhibits. Hashim allegedly named Alhassan as an accomplice, prompting his immediate apprehension.

Alhassan has been transferred to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) for further probing. Preliminary findings indicate Hashim, now at large, was the primary controller of the narcotics.

“Strenuous efforts are underway to arrest suspect Hashim to assist in investigations,” Chief Inspector Niendow stated.

Mohammed Alhassan is scheduled for court appearance on Monday, December 29, 2025, facing charges of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

The operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the Northern Region.
