The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old trader, Issaka Mohammed, for allegedly possessing 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was carried out by the Ashaiman District Police on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., following intelligence received by motorbike patrol officers about a suspected Indian hemp dealer operating at a “ghetto” behind the New Tulaku Cow Market.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Monday, September 14, officers proceeded to the area and intercepted Mohammed while he was carrying a sack.
A search of the sack allegedly led to the discovery of the 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.
“A search of the sack led to the discovery of the thirty-seven (37) slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp,” the Police said.
The Police said the exhibits were counted in the presence of the suspect and retained as evidence.
Suspect assisting with investigations
Issaka Mohammed is currently assisting the Police with investigations and is expected to be put before court as soon as practicable.
The Tema Regional Police Command has also urged the public to continue providing credible information on individuals involved in the possession, sale and distribution of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.
The Police said information from the public would support ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences and improve public safety.
