Two Dead, Several Injured in Road Crash at Civic Centre Traffic Lights in Ho

Two people have been killed while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road accident involving a Hyundai Mighty truck and a Bajaj rickshaw at the Civic Centre traffic lights in Ho.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The Hyundai Mighty truck with registration number GE 5963-23 collided with the Bajaj rickshaw bearing registration number M-21-VR 3558.

Police sources told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that officers responded promptly after receiving reports from the Volta Regional Police Communication Room.

Upon arrival, police found both vehicles extensively damaged. Injured victims were rushed to the Ho Municipal Hospital and the Ho Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Those receiving treatment include Bome Comfort (22), Mr Muntari Munkila (44), Sterling Govor (5), Mr Yaw Botwe (43) — the driver of the truck — and Mr Abubakar Larabu (44), who is in critical condition.

However, Vivian Prempeh (43) and Osei Portia (26) were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the morgues of the respective hospitals pending autopsy.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr Yaw Botwe was travelling from Wusuta towards Accra with two unidentified passengers. On reaching the Civic Centre traffic lights, he allegedly veered off his lane into the opposite direction and collided with the Bajaj rickshaw ridden by Mr Darko Kwabena (38).

The truck reportedly continued moving after the collision and crashed into a hair salon and a boutique by the roadside, injuring several people.

The driver remains on admission under police observation while investigations into the exact cause of the accident continue.
