Police Arrest Eight Suspects for Assault and Fraudulent Acts in Kotokrom

The Regional Operations Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested eight suspects involved in fraudulent acts and the assault of a 21-year-old man at Kotokrom in the Sunyani West Municipality.

The victim, Godstime Umukoro, was attacked on 4 October 2026 at about 4:30 p.m.

Police said a patrol team received a distress call that a group of people were attacking a person at Kotokrom. Officers proceeded to the scene and found the victim with multiple marks of assault on his body. The suspects were arrested at the scene.

The arrested persons are Peter Mbam, 24; Godwin Moses, 26; Humble Oweifah, 18; Osas Ogbemudia, 30; Samuel Aisosa, 22; Ashile Godbess, 24; Alexander Uyuo, 30; and Patrick Romans, 25.

During interrogation, the suspects stated that they subjected the victim to severe beating as part of his initiation into the internet fraud business, a process they claimed they had also undergone.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were brought to Ghana by one Nwachukwu King Augustine, identified as their chairman. Police said the group lures innocent victims using downloaded images of foreign military men and starts chatting with them under the pretext that they are at the war front in Yemen. When they succeed in collecting the victims’ money, it is paid into their boss’s account.

The Bono Regional Police Command has commended the public for their swift intervention and assured them of continued collaboration in fighting crime in the region.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command.
