Parliament Declares Kpandai Seat Vacant, Triggers EC Re-Run After Court Order

The Parliamentary Service has officially informed the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency seat, paving the way for a court-mandated re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election in the Northern Region.
In a letter dated December 4, 2025, addressed to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and signed by Clerk Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the notification invokes Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution. It cites a Tamale High Court ruling on November 24, 2025 (Suit NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25), which invalidated the original results due to significant irregularities.
The directive requires the EC to conduct the fresh poll within 90 days—by early March 2026—ensuring Kpandai residents regain legislative representation. The re-run carries high stakes amid tight parliamentary balances, with major parties expected to mobilize heavily.
The EC is anticipated to release a detailed timetable soon, including nomination periods and the polling date, as preparations begin to restore electoral integrity in the constituency.
