Parliament Approves Ayariga, Zanetor as Ministers

Parliament has approved the nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as ministers in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

The approval follows their vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Mahama Ayariga, who previously served as Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, has been approved as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the MP for Korle Klottey, has been approved as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, with responsibility for areas including environmental protection, scientific research and technological development.

The House approved both nominations through a voice vote, with Speaker Alban Bagbin declaring that the Ayes had it.

The Speaker said the approvals were made in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The appointments form part of President Mahama’s ongoing changes to his ministerial team as the government seeks to advance its agenda in local governance, environmental protection, science and technology.
