Paramount Chief of Asante Akyem Agogo, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, Passes Away at 87

The Paramount Chief of the Asante Akyem Agogo Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, has passed away after a period of ill health.
Family and close associates confirmed that the revered traditional ruler died late on Thursday night, March 26, 2026.
Nana Akuoko Sarpong, who was also a qualified lawyer and had been actively involved in national politics, was widely respected for his long and stable leadership. He is the father of popular media personality AJ Sarpong.
Born on August 11, 1938, he ascended the Agogo stool on December 23, 1975, following the death of his uncle, Nana Kwaku Duah. He formally swore allegiance to the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, in January 1976.
Popularly known as Agogomanhene, Nana Akuoko Sarpong ruled for over 50 years, marking 47 years on the throne in 2023. His reign was noted for bringing stability to the traditional area and supporting agricultural development, which remains the backbone of the local economy.
Many residents of Asante Akyem Agogo have described his passing as a significant loss, marking the end of a long era of leadership and service to the community.
Funeral arrangements for the late Paramount Chief are expected to be announced by the family and the traditional council in the coming days.
