Over 107,000 BECE Candidates to Use Self-Placement Portal for 2025 School Admissions

The Ministry of Education has released the 2025 school placement results for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with 590,309 out of 603,328 candidates qualifying for admission into Senior High Schools (SHSs), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs), and Technical and Vocational Institutions (TVIs).

Of those qualified, 483,800 candidates (82%) have been automatically placed into their chosen schools. However, 107,509 candidates will need to use the self-placement portal to select available schools due to high demand for top-tier institutions, which left some unmatched with their preferred choices, according to Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak.

The self-placement portal is now active, and the Ministry has expanded options by including 70 private schools in the Free SHS Programme, up from 21 initially available during school selection. The placement exercise covers 724 public SHSs/SHTSs, 233 TVIs, and 70 private SHSs.

To support the process, resolution centres have been established at district, regional, and national levels, with the GNAT Hall in Accra serving as the national hub. The Ministry emphasized that placement is free and warned parents and guardians against paying anyone for assistance, as such actions could lead to scams.

Students are expected to report to their assigned schools on October 18, 2025. The Ministry urged all stakeholders to cooperate for a smooth and transparent admission process.
