One Dead, Several Injured in Violent Youth Clash at Winneba

One person has been reported dead following a violent clash between two youth factions at Sankor, a suburb of Winneba in the Central Region.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, January 25, left several others injured, though the exact cause of the clash remains unclear. Disturbing videos circulating on social media show members of the rival groups inflicting machete wounds on themselves during the confrontation.

Confirming the incident, the Winneba Divisional Police Commander, ACP Ibrahim Opoku, stated that multiple individuals sustained injuries as a result of the violence.

“Several persons got injured in the clash which occurred on Sunday, January 25,” he said.

Citi News has further gathered that one individual, identified as Excoba, later died after sustaining multiple machete and gunshot wounds during the clash.

Following a review of the circulating videos, the police arrested a number of suspects in connection with the incident. Security presence in the area has since been intensified to prevent further disturbances.

ACP Opoku assured residents that calm has been restored in the community, adding that investigations are ongoing and all persons found to have played a role in the violence will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
