One Dead in Gomoa Ankamu Crash After Truck Overtaking Attempt

The Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident at Gomoa Ankamu near Apam Junction in the Central Region, leaving one person dead.
Accident Details
According to the Service, the Apam Fire Station received a distress call at about 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, reporting a collision between a Kia Picanto (GW 8314-21) and a Hyundai Rhino truck (GJ 823-21).
Firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they found one occupant trapped in the mangled Kia Picanto.
Rescue Efforts
The rescue team successfully extricated the victim and handed him over to the Ghana National Ambulance Service for urgent medical attention at Saint Luke Hospital.
However, the victim was later pronounced dead on arrival.
Cause of the Crash
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Hyundai Rhino truck, which was travelling towards Winneba, attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed but lost control.
The truck subsequently collided head-on with the Kia Picanto, which was heading in the opposite direction towards Cape Coast.
Extent of Damage
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, highlighting the severity of the impact.
Safety Concern
The incident adds to growing concerns over reckless overtaking and speeding on Ghana’s highways, as authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution to prevent avoidable tragedies.
