BPS Demands Immediate Arrest of Asutifi North MP Over Assault on NAIMOS Team

The Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) has issued a scathing statement calling for the arrest and prosecution of Asutifi North MP Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo (NDC) and his accomplices following a violent clash with anti-galamsey forces in the Ahafo Region.
What Happened?
- Date: Saturday, 1 November 2025
- Location: Bronikrom–Hwidiem (10 m from Hwidiem–Goaso Highway) NAIMOS raided a sophisticated galamsey camp, arresting operators (including a Burkinabe national) and seizing excavators, pistols, cash, and vehicles.
A 600-strong mob—allegedly mobilised by the MP on instructions from Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda—stormed Hwidiem Police Station, smashed a NAIMOS Hilux windshield (reg. AD 7191-25), assaulted the NAIMOS Director of Operations, and forced the release of detainees.
Nine soldiers attached to the task force narrowly escaped lynching.
BPS Five-Point Demand
- Arrest the MP and all thugs within 48 hours.
- Joint Police–Military probe into the Hwidiem station siege.
- Witness protection for NAIMOS officers and soldiers.
- Parliamentary inquiry under Standing Order 93 (possible sanctions: censure, suspension, or criminal referral).
- Armed escorts for every future NAIMOS deployment.
— Nana Yaw Akwada, BPS Executive Director
Political Fallout
The MP has gone silent; his verified Facebook page last posted about rural electrification on 1 November. Collins Dauda’s office called the allegations “baseless political smears.” Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who first publicised the raid, tweeted:
“The law will take its course—no sacred cows.” Next 72 Hours
Police CID has opened Docket CR/445/2025 (Obstruction & Assault on Public Officers). NAIMOS has suspended Ahafo operations pending reinforced security. BPS threatens to petition the Speaker and IGP by Wednesday if no arrests are made.
