One Dead in Fatal Collision Between Pajero Sport and Tipper Truck on Kpong–Tema Highway

A man has lost his life in a tragic road accident involving a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and a Howo tipper truck on the Kpong–Tema Highway, sparking renewed concerns about road safety along one of Ghana’s busiest transportation routes.
The fatal crash occurred at Kings and Queens near Akuse Junction in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
According to a statement issued by the Eastern Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), personnel from the Kpong Fire Station responded swiftly after receiving a distress call about the incident.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found both vehicles badly damaged. The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport had sustained extensive front-end damage, while the Howo tipper truck suffered partial damage to its rear section.
The GNFS confirmed that the sole male occupant of the Pajero Sport was pronounced dead at the scene.
“One male occupant of the Pajero Sport was confirmed dead at the scene. His body was later handed over to the Akuse Police Accident Unit and conveyed to the Akuse Government Hospital morgue for preservation,” the statement noted.
Firefighters also assisted in managing traffic flow along the highway to prevent further accidents and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles during the recovery operation.
Although the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation, preliminary observations suggest it was a high-impact crash involving the two vehicles.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish whether human error, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
The Ghana National Fire Service has meanwhile urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and exercise maximum caution on the roads, reiterating its commitment to providing rapid emergency response services across the country.
