Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project Faces Delays Due to Unforeseen Challenges
Senior Project Manager Ing. Abdulai Mahama has provided an update on the delayed completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road project. Initially set to be finished within 24 months from its commencement in September 2022, the project is currently about 60% complete.
Speaking on Adom TV’s ‘The Big Agenda’ with Abena Opokua Ahwenee, Mr. Mahama explained that several unforeseen challenges have caused the delay. One significant obstacle was the need to demolish a shrine along the construction path. The process was delayed by three and a half months because locals informed the project team that the shrine’s gods had “travelled.” To proceed, the team had to provide two cattle and additional payments to appease the local community.
Other issues contributing to the delay include resolving disputes between settlers and landlords and the need to reposition high-tension wires belonging to ECG and GRIDCO. These complexities have extended the project timeline beyond initial expectations.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Mahama assured that the road is designed to last 20 years, with all drainage systems planned to endure for 50 years, ensuring long-term benefits once the project is completed.
