Obrachire SHS Student Victim Demands Justice After Brutal Attack at Agona Swedru Inter-Schools Athletics Event

A student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School, identified as Fiadzigbe, has publicly demanded justice following a violent assault during the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

In a chilling account shared with the media, Fiadzigbe recounted how he was targeted without provocation during the event. He sustained a broken tooth, multiple facial injuries, and other trauma after being pelted with stones and physically assaulted.

“They threw a stone at me when I was looking for a place to sit so that I could use the medicine on my eye. I didn’t do anything. I was just standing there,” he explained. “When I turned, I saw my colleagues running, but I didn’t know what was happening. By the time I realised, the stones came to hit me.”

A widely circulated video of the incident shows the student under attack amid chaos, with others fleeing the scene. The assault was allegedly carried out by students from Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).

Fiadzigbe, who has since received medical treatment and returned to school, insisted he did nothing to instigate the violence and called for full accountability.

“I want them to be arrested. Anything that the government wants to do to them,” he stated firmly, expressing his desire for the perpetrators to face the full consequences of their actions.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with the attack, with investigations ongoing to identify any additional individuals involved. The Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed the arrests and assured that the probe would be thorough.

The Ministry of Education and GES have strongly condemned the violence, describing it as “unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship.” All ongoing sporting activities in the Central Region have been suspended pending a comprehensive review and the implementation of stricter security and disciplinary measures at inter-school events.

The incident has reignited national concerns about student safety, crowd control, and discipline during school competitions. Authorities are working with school heads, parents, and security agencies to prevent future occurrences and restore confidence in extracurricular activities.

Fiadzigbe and other affected students are receiving ongoing support from school management, guidance counsellors, and medical personnel. The GES has reiterated its commitment to a safe and disciplined learning environment, with disciplinary action promised for all found culpable once investigations conclude.
