NPP Slams EC for Ablekuma North Rerun Decision at National Delegates Conference

At the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a partial rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North.

Kodua expressed shock at the EC’s “sudden U-turn,” asserting that the NPP’s pink sheet evidence from all 281 polling stations showed a clear 414-vote victory. He called the rerun a “wrong decision” and a “bad precedent” that risks undermining public trust in Ghana’s electoral process and democratic institutions.

The EC ordered the rerun due to reported irregularities in the 2024 election results, a move that has fueled political tension, with the NPP maintaining its legitimate win.

The conference, attended by over 5,600 delegates, focused on rebuilding the party post-2024 defeat, discussing 59 constitutional amendments to strengthen its structure for the 2028 elections.
