NPP Primaries: Confusion as 15 Delegates’ Names Missing from Voters’ Register in Awutu Senya

Tension flared at the Awutu Senya constituency polling centre in the early hours of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, after 15 delegates discovered their names had been omitted from the voters’ register.

A video circulating online shows heated arguments between officials and agents, particularly from Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s camp, who protested the omission.

Police personnel intervened quickly, calming the situation and preventing further escalation.

A former member of the constituency, Hawa Koomson, who was present at the scene, stated that the 15 affected delegates would have voted for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The incident highlights the high stakes and sensitivity surrounding today’s flagbearer election, where over 211,000 delegates are voting nationwide to choose the NPP’s candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Party officials and the Electoral Commission are expected to address such discrepancies promptly to ensure the process remains credible and peaceful.

Voting continues across the country, with results anticipated later today.
