Akufo-Addo Confident NPP Will Reclaim Power in 2028, Building on Kufuor Legacy

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed strong confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will return to power in the 2028 general elections, leveraging the party’s achievements under his administration and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly constructed Bantama Constituency office of the NPP, Akufo-Addo highlighted the “enormous work” done during both tenures as the foundation for a political comeback. “The work the NPP did during my time and during former President Kufuor’s time is enormous, and it is that legacy we will build on to win back power in 2028,” he stated.

The event, attended by senior party officials, constituency executives, traditional leaders, and members of the NPP Loyal Ladies, underscored the office’s role as a “symbol of unity, grassroots empowerment, and dedication to effective party organization.” Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, who led the constituency office project, was praised for his contributions.

Akufo-Addo took a swipe at the current Mahama-led administration, nine months into its term, suggesting its shortcomings are paving the way for the NPP’s return. “We have all seen what is happening—you’ve all seen it. Things are not going well. But when we unite and do things right, I know that, with God’s help, we will reclaim power in 2028,” he urged, calling on party faithful to stay united and focused.

The remarks come amid ongoing NPP efforts to regroup after losing the 2024 elections, with the party emphasizing its governance record—including infrastructure, economic reforms, and social programs from the Kufuor (2001–2009) and Akufo-Addo (2017–2025) eras—as key campaign pillars.
