NPP Faces Legal Challenge as Two Members Seek Injunction to Halt Extraordinary National Delegates Conference

On July 14, 2025, two New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo, filed a motion for an interlocutory injunction at the Accra High Court to block the party’s Extraordinary National Delegates Conference, scheduled for July 18–20, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Represented by Agyemang Duah of CharisBrit Legal Consult, the plaintiffs argue that the conference violates party procedures and could prejudice their ongoing substantive legal challenge against the NPP.
The motion, filed under Order 25 of C.I. 47, seeks to maintain the status quo until the court resolves the case and requests additional orders to ensure fairness.
The conference, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” is critical for the NPP’s reorganization following its 2024 electoral defeat, with delegates set to discuss constitutional amendments proposed by the Mike Oquaye Committee and party members.
The plaintiffs’ claims echo past instances of internal NPP disputes, such as the 2018 Volta Region conference injunction by disqualified candidate George Kofi Boateng.
As of July 17, 2025, the NPP has not officially responded to the application, but posts on X indicate heightened tensions, with some users speculating on the plaintiffs’ motives. The outcome of this legal challenge could disrupt the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 elections.
