No Job Cuts Over Floods – Sam George Assures Ghana Digital Centres Staff

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, , has assured employees of (GDCL) that no jobs will be lost despite the devastating floods that disrupted operations at the state-owned technology hub.

The assurance comes nearly two weeks after the Ministry reversed a decision by GDCL management to suspend the employment contracts of all staff following the June 29 floods, which caused significant damage to parts of the Accra Digital Centre.

The Ministry described the suspension as unacceptable and directed management to immediately reinstate the affected staff, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting jobs during the recovery period.

Addressing the Board, management and staff on Monday, July 13, 2026, Mr George sought to end uncertainty surrounding employees’ future.

“We are not laying off any staff of GDCL, whether temporarily or permanently, because of the flood. Every one of you is assured of the continuity of your jobs.”

While assuring staff of job security, the Minister stressed that the floods should serve as a turning point for transforming the organisation into a financially sustainable enterprise.

“Let’s take this as the reset of the reset. Every staff member will have to play their role because it’s not going to be business as usual.”

Mr George said the Ministry would continue to support GDCL’s recovery while strengthening corporate governance, improving operational efficiency and ensuring the institution’s long-term sustainability.

He expressed confidence that the organisation has the assets and potential to become a profitable state-owned enterprise and indicated that management would be held accountable for achieving that objective.

“With the assets you hold, there is no excuse for GDCL not to be profitable… It will not fail, not under my watch.”

Ghana Digital Centres Limited provides office space and support for technology companies, start-ups and innovation-driven businesses at the Accra Digital Centre. Although operations were disrupted by the June 29 floods, recovery efforts are ongoing as government works to restore confidence among tenants, investors and the wider digital ecosystem.
