Nigerian Trader Jailed 7 Years for Human Trafficking in Accra

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a Nigerian trader, Ada Peace, to seven years’ imprisonment after finding her guilty of human trafficking and immigration-related offences.

The conviction followed an operation by the Ghana Immigration Service that led to the rescue of two victims aged 21 and 13.

According to immigration officials, the victims were allegedly recruited from Nigeria to Ghana under the pretext of employment opportunities. However, investigations revealed that they were instead subjected to sexual exploitation and forced into prostitution.

The Ghana Immigration Service said the case forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

Officials described the ruling as a significant milestone in the fight against human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and related crimes.

The Service further reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and prosecuting offenders while strengthening preventive measures to curb the exploitation of vulnerable persons.

The rescued victims have since been removed from the alleged trafficking network and are receiving the necessary care and support from relevant authorities.
