NIA WORKERS TO STRIKE FROM MAY 13 OVER DELAYED CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) are expected to embark on a nationwide strike from May 13, 2026, over delays in the approval and implementation of migration reports affecting their conditions of service.
The Public Services Workers’ Union says the delay has denied staff proper placement, corresponding salaries, and outstanding promotions despite the approval of the Scheme of Service in July 2024 and the start of the migration process in December 2024.
According to the union, repeated engagements with management and relevant authorities have failed to secure approval from the Ministry of Finance for payment implementation.
“Twenty-two months since the approval of the Scheme of Service… the Ministry of Finance is yet to grant approval for payment of staff,” the union stated.
The union warned that the continued delays are threatening industrial peace within the authority and says workers will proceed with the strike if approvals are not granted by May 13, 2026.
