Former NPP Parliamentary Candidate Valentino Nii Noi Nortey Arrested in US for Alleged Stabbing of Wife

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania, USA, after allegedly stabbing his wife during a domestic dispute.

According to the Lower Paxton Township Police Department, the incident occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at a residence on Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg.

Emergency responders found a woman with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition. Police emphasised that the situation was isolated and posed no danger to the wider community.

Nortey now faces multiple serious charges, including attempted homicide, possessing an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. These offences carry potentially severe penalties under U.S. law.

Online court records confirm that he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail. Nortey is currently being held at Dauphin County Prison while investigations continue. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 26, 2026, where prosecutors will present evidence to determine whether the case should proceed to trial.

Once regarded as a rising figure within the NPP, Nortey contested parliamentary elections in one of Ghana’s most competitive constituencies. His involvement in such a grave criminal allegation abroad has drawn intense public scrutiny and is deeply uncomfortable for the party.

No official statement has been issued by the NPP or Nortey’s representatives at the time of this report. The case continues to unfold in the U.S. legal system.
