NIA Workers to Resume Duty After Labour Commission Orders Suspension of Strike

Staff of the National Identification Authority are expected to return to work today, Friday, May 15, after the National Labour Commission directed them to suspend their strike action.
The industrial action, which began on Wednesday, May 13, was organised by workers of the NIA over delays in implementing migration reports tied to salaries, promotions, placements and other conditions of service.
According to Bernard Adjei, the Public Services Workers’ Union has accepted the NLC’s directive in good faith and will ensure that workers resume duty.
Speaking to Citi News, he said:
> “As a responsible union, we have taken the directive in good faith; we think it is fair.”
He added that all parties involved are expected to honour their obligations so the matter can be resolved peacefully.
The directive followed a meeting involving the PSWU, the NIA and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
The NLC has also instructed the FWSC to ensure the approval and implementation of the migration report for NIA staff by the end of May 2026.
The strike had raised concerns about delays in national identification services across Ghana, including card registration and processing.
