Nearly 100 Unlicensed Motorbike Couriers Impounded in Accra

The Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission has impounded close to 100 unlicensed motorbike couriers operating across Accra as part of an ongoing enforcement exercise.
Crackdown on Unlicensed Operations
The move follows earlier directives by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations requiring all courier operators to register, obtain licences, and be integrated into the Integrated Courier and Logistics Management System (ICOLMS-Ghana).
Fines and Compliance Measures
Affected riders were issued a spot fine of GH¢600 before their motorbikes were released, in line with regulatory enforcement measures.
Police Support in Operation
Speaking on the exercise, Public Relations Manager Nii Yeboah Burgesson noted that initial resistance from riders was encountered but was quickly managed with assistance from the Ghana Police Service.
“We are a commission, but we are working together with the Ghana Police Service to get the motorbikes to take them through the administrative process,” he explained.
Riders Begin Regularisation
Authorities say some of the affected riders have already begun the process of obtaining the necessary licences and complying with regulations.
Purpose of the Exercise
The enforcement action is aimed at:
Ensuring safety and accountability in the courier sector
Formalising delivery services in Ghana
Improving monitoring through ICOLMS-Ghana
The Commission has reiterated its commitment to sustained enforcement, urging all courier operators to regularise their operations to avoid sanctions.
