Nation to Honor Daddy Lumba with Candlelight Vigil on August 2, Book of Condolence Opens

The Fosu family, in collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency, has announced a national candlelight vigil to honor the late Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra, starting at 6:00 PM.
The solemn event will celebrate the life and legacy of the music icon, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at The Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness, aged 60.
The family has also opened a Book of Condolence at Daddy Lumba’s private residence at House Number 12, Kinshasha Crescent, Accra (GA-332-9264), available for signing from Tuesday, July 29, 2025, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily.
In a statement issued on July 27, 2025, through their legal counsel Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., the Fosu family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, celebrities, and public figures, including former President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. “Your kindness and solidarity have brought us great comfort,” the statement read.
The family reiterated their request for privacy during this period of grief while inviting Ghanaians to join in commemorating Daddy Lumba’s extraordinary contributions through hits like Aben Wo Ha and Theresa. Final funeral arrangements will be announced later. The vigil and condolence book provide opportunities for the nation to mourn and celebrate a cultural icon whose 33 albums shaped Ghanaian music for over three decades.
