Police Recover Five Firearms, Kill One Suspect in Gun Battle on Dormaa–Gonokrom Highway

The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five firearms and killed one suspected armed robber during an intelligence-led operation to foil a planned highway robbery on the Dormaa–Gonokrom road.
The operation was launched after credible intelligence on February 11, 2026, indicated that a robbery gang was planning to attack traders travelling along the highway.
Surveillance teams were deployed to the area to intercept the suspected attackers.
In the early hours of February 12, 2026, officers advancing near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from nearby bushes. The police returned fire.
At daybreak, a search of the area revealed the body of a male suspect who had been shot dead, with an AK-47 rifle found beside him.
Further search uncovered a sack containing additional weapons and ammunition. Recovered items include:
Two Baikal single-barrel guns
One pump-action gun
One Beretta pistol (loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition) + 34 extra 9mm rounds
One AK-47 rifle (loaded with 11 rounds) + 10 extra rounds
39 BB cartridges
One dagger
One mobile phone
One Honda motorbike
One black mask
One set of talisman
The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.
Police say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected robbery gang. The command appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist in apprehending the remaining suspects.
The Bono Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety and security across the region, particularly on highways frequently used by traders and commuters.
