Nalerigu Curfew Adjusted to 6 PM–6 AM Effective July 31 Amid Ongoing Security Concerns

The Ministry of the Interior has revised the curfew hours for Nalerigu Township and its environs in the East Mamprusi Municipality, North East Region, to 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, effective Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The decision, announced in a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, MP, follows advice from the National Security Council and is formalized through an Executive Instrument.

The adjustment from the previous 2:00 PM to 6:00 AM curfew, implemented on July 27, 2025, comes in response to ongoing security challenges, including the July 26 killing of two students at Nalerigu Senior High School, suspected to be linked to the Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

The government reiterated its commitment to restoring peace, urging traditional leaders, youth, and residents to resolve disputes non-violently. A total ban on arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains in place, with violators facing arrest and prosecution.

The revised curfew aims to facilitate the safe evacuation of students and enhance security measures, though Nalerigu/Gambaga MP Nurudeen Mohammed Mumuni previously criticized the initial curfew’s coordination, citing widespread non-compliance due to resident frustration.

Posts on X, including from @CitiNewsRoom, indicate mixed reactions, with some residents welcoming the extended daytime hours, while others, like @BureauNpp, call for better engagement to ensure compliance. The Ghana Armed Forces continue to enforce the curfew as part of broader peace enforcement efforts in the region.
