NAIMOS Arrests Five Chinese Nationals in Anti-Galamsey Operation at Akyem Oda

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested five Chinese nationals in a targeted operation against illegal mining activities in the Akyem Oda area of the Birim Central Municipality.

The operation, carried out on Monday, December 29, began around 1:40 p.m. and focused on several illicit mining sites within the municipality.

According to NAIMOS, the suspects were allegedly involved in unauthorized mining and washing activities, with operations reportedly discharging directly into the Birim River, raising serious environmental concerns.

The arrests form part of ongoing nationwide efforts to clamp down on illegal mining and protect Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be processed for prosecution in accordance with the law.
