MP Matthew Nyindam Expresses Relief After Supreme Court Restores His Seat

Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has expressed profound relief and gratitude after the Supreme Court overturned a High Court ruling that had nullified his election, restoring his parliamentary seat.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Nyindam described the legal battle as emotionally and politically draining, but said he remains deeply thankful to all who stood by him.

“I pray what happened to me doesn’t happen to any MP, whether NPP or NDC. I have gone through a lot, and I thank everyone who supported me,” he said.

He particularly singled out former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his unwavering personal support, describing him as a brother who consistently checked on his welfare and offered assistance during the ordeal.

Mr Nyindam noted that without the timely intervention of the Supreme Court, his seat could have been lost ahead of a proposed by-election. He also described the declaration of his seat as vacant and the subsequent political activities in his constituency as deeply troubling.

The Supreme Court, in a 4–1 majority decision, granted a certiorari application filed by the NPP MP, ruling that the Tamale High Court lacked jurisdiction to nullify the election. The apex court thereby confirmed the validity of Mr Nyindam’s victory in the December 7, 2024, general election.

Full reasons for the ruling are expected to be released on February 6, 2026.

The decision brings to an end a protracted legal challenge and allows Mr Nyindam to resume his duties as the duly elected MP for Kpandai, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His remarks reflect widespread relief among supporters and highlight the emotional toll such disputes can have on parliamentarians and their constituents.
