UEW Professor Endorses Kennedy Agyapong as Best Candidate to Tackle Unemployment

Professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Yaw Sakyi Baidoo, has publicly endorsed Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the best candidate to lead Ghana, citing his proven experience in job creation for the youth.
Speaking to the media, Prof. Sakyi Baidoo argued that Ghana has long elected leaders from professions such as law, economics, and medicine, yet unemployment remains a persistent crisis.
“Ghanaians need a leader who can bring discipline, create jobs, and develop the country,” he said.
“It is now time for a businessman to lead the country—someone who understands how to generate jobs.”
He urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise the welfare and development of Ghana over personal interests or narrow considerations.
“Universities across the country have produced numerous graduates since independence, yet access to jobs remains a major challenge because leaders lack practical knowledge in job creation,” he noted.
Prof. Sakyi Baidoo also expressed concern over Ghana’s continued dependence on imported rice and onions despite vast arable land that could support local production and create employment.
He cautioned NPP delegates against being swayed by propaganda from other candidates targeting Kennedy Agyapong.
“The younger generation, particularly Gen Z, is more interested in solutions and opportunities than in political rhetoric,” he said.
He concluded by urging delegates to make the right choice in the upcoming primaries, warning that voting against Kennedy Agyapong could jeopardise the party’s chances in the 2028 elections.
“If we fail to choose correctly now, we may lose the opportunity to win power and deliver the transformation Ghanaians deserve,” he added.
The endorsement comes as the NPP intensifies preparations for its flagbearer contest scheduled for January 31, 2026, with delegates expected to elect a candidate capable of leading the party back to power. Prof. Sakyi Baidoo’s remarks highlight the growing emphasis on practical economic leadership and job creation as key considerations in the race.
