Parliament has officially stated that it holds no records of any documents linking the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, to service in the United States Armed Forces.
In a response dated December 11, 2025, to a Right to Information request filed on November 4, 2025, by Ghanaian citizen Edison Osbert Lartey, the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Dzietror, confirmed that no such details were ever submitted.
The request specifically asked whether Parliament had received from Dr Acheampong:
- Details of his rank of enlistment and discharge from the United States Air Force (or any other branch of the United States Armed Forces).
- A copy of the Certificate of Honourable Discharge or any other documentation confirming his service.
The response stated: “There is no record indicating that details of Honourable Bryan Acheampong’s rank of enlistment or discharge from the United States Air Force, or any other branch of the United States Armed Forces, were submitted to the leadership of Parliament or to the Appointments Committee following its meeting on Monday, 20th February 2023, to vet the Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.”
It further clarified: “There is no record to show that Honourable Bryan Acheampong submitted any document to the Committee confirming his service in the United States Air Force (or any related institution).”
Consequently, Parliament stated it is unable to provide certified copies or further particulars, as no such documentation was ever presented.
Dr Bryan Acheampong is one of five aspirants in the race to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 elections. The ballot order is:
- Kennedy Ohene Agyapong – Former MP for Assin Central
- Dr Bryan Acheampong – MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture
- Dr Mahamudu Bawumia – Former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer
