MoH pays nurses’ arrears, moves to recruit 16,000 health workers

The Ministry of Health has confirmed the payment of two months’ salary arrears to newly recruited nurses, while outlining plans to engage up to 16,000 health professionals to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.
In a statement issued on April 28, the Ministry said the payments are part of efforts to address concerns raised by the nurses, assuring that additional arrears covering May to July 2026 will also be honoured as scheduled.
It expressed appreciation to nurses for their patience and reaffirmed government’s commitment to building a resilient and responsive health workforce.
The Ministry further disclosed that financial clearance has already been secured for about 8,000 positions, with processes underway to obtain approval for the remaining slots. It emphasised that recruitment will be carried out in a structured manner and strictly based on available funding.
Applicants were reminded that the official recruitment portal remains the only authorised channel and advised to contact the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate for any concerns.

The Ministry acknowledged challenges with portal access due to high demand but assured the public that steps are being taken to expand recruitment opportunities and improve the system.
