Akontombra SHS Students and Staff Stage Community Walk Against Teacher-Student Sexual Misconduct

Students, teachers, and staff of Akontombra Senior High School took to the streets of Akontombra yesterday in a determined community walk to raise awareness about the growing concern of teacher-student sexual misconduct.

The event focused on highlighting cases where teachers and some school staff are alleged to have engaged in inappropriate sexual relationships with students, particularly female students. Organizers emphasized the need to protect the rights and safety of learners while reinforcing zero tolerance for such behavior on school campuses.

Participants carried placards and chanted slogans calling for stricter measures to safeguard students and urging the community to report any suspected cases of misconduct. The walk aimed to educate parents, residents, and stakeholders on the dangers of such acts and the importance of collective action in preventing them.

School authorities described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts to promote a safe and conducive learning environment. Similar campaigns have gained momentum across Ghana in recent years amid reports of professional misconduct in educational institutions.

The Ghana Education Service and relevant authorities have been urged to strengthen oversight and enforcement of policies prohibiting romantic or sexual relationships between staff and students. No specific incidents were cited during the walk, but organizers stressed that prevention through awareness remains key to addressing the issue.
