Minority Demands Suspension of NSA Boss Over Alleged $600,000 World Cup Visa Fraud

The Minority in Parliament has called for the immediate suspension or dismissal of the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) over an alleged visa fraud linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The press briefing was led by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah.

According to the Minority, the alleged fraud involves a visa facilitation arrangement between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Mr Assafuah alleged that a fraudulent visa facilitation scheme operating out of NSA offices and national stadiums has generated approximately $600,000. He claimed individual Ghanaian travellers were charged up to $8,000 each for World Cup travel arrangements under the guise of guaranteed visas.

He further alleged that the NSA set up offices intended for FIFA-licensed agencies to plan events, which were then misused to collect large sums of money for visa guarantees without authorisation.

According to him, one individual has already been arrested after receiving a $56,000 commission meant for the now-suspended NSA leadership.

The Minority is therefore demanding that the NSA Director-General step aside pending the conclusion of investigations into the alleged scandal.
