Massive Fire Rages at Taifa Junction Wood Market – Several Stalls Destroyed

A fierce fire has gutted several stalls at the wood market located at Taifa Junction, just off the Accra–Ofankor-Pokuase Highway, causing significant destruction in the early hours of Saturday.

The blaze, which broke out around the entrance of the popular market, quickly spread through the highly combustible wooden materials and structures. Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Eyewitness footage shared via a TikTok livestream by a user identified as Afua Friday showed multiple stalls completely engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising into the sky. Afua, who claimed ownership of one of the affected shops, was visibly distraught as she watched her livelihood burn.

“I’ve lost everything,” she cried during the live broadcast.

As of the latest update, firefighters are still battling to bring the inferno under full control due to the rapid spread through the densely packed wooden stalls. No casualties have been reported so far.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, but investigations are expected to begin once the blaze is extinguished.

The Taifa Junction wood market is a major hub for timber and furniture traders in Accra, and such fires have historically caused heavy financial losses for small-scale businesses in the area.

Local authorities and the Fire Service have urged traders and the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety measures, especially when handling flammable materials.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
