NAIMOS Busts Bold Galamsey Camp Just 10 Metres from Ahafo Highway

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has dismantled a brazen illegal mining site at Bronikrom–Hwediem in the Ahafo Region, arresting several operators—including one Burkinabe national—on Saturday, November 1, 2025.Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu broke the news on X, posting four photos that reveal how close the camp was to public view:
  • A fully equipped settlement with DStv satellite dish mounted on a wooden pole
  • Rows of makeshift dormitories under blue tarpaulin
  • Changfans (floating platforms) lined up along a muddy riverbank
  • Seized equipment including water pumps and generators

“NAIMOS continues to strike at the heart of illegal mining,” the minister wrote. “They flushed out illegal miners… at a galamsey site about 10 metres from the main Hwediem–Goaso Highway

” The raid is the latest in a string of high-profile operations since President Mahama relaunched the anti-galamsey war in early 2025. In the past week alone, NAIMOS has arrested Chinese nationals in Ashanti and Western North, and cleared armed imposters from the Oda River Forest Reserve.
