A petition has been filed with the Office of the President to remove Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, along with her deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare, Samuel Tettey, and Dr. Peter Appiahene.

The petitioner, Ofosu-Appiah Daniel, claims that they have violated the constitution, shown incompetence, and displayed bias, which has eroded public trust in the Electoral Commission assistant

The petition, which was submitted on Monday, January 27, 2025, cites Article 146 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution as the legal basis for the request. It accuses the EC Chair and her deputies of gross misconduct, human rights breaches, and incompetence in their official roles. The petitioner argues that their actions and inactions have undermined the integrity of the Electoral Commission and breached their constitutional duties, posing a threat to the Ghanaian people in the electoral process.

The petition specifically mentions that the EC’s decision to disenfranchise voters from the Guan district, including communities such as Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi, was unjust and lacked transparency. This decision, according to the petition, violated the constitutional rights of the affected voters and potentially influenced the balance of power in Parliament.
