The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has urged Zijin Mining Group to make Ghana its focal point and springboard for expanding its mining operations across Africa.
The Minister made the call during a meeting with Zijin Mining Group President Lin Hongfu in China, as part of Ghana’s efforts to attract increased global investment into the country’s mining sector.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah said Ghana offers a strong platform for long-term investment and encouraged the Chinese mining giant to build a mutually beneficial partnership with the country.
Minister Commends Zijin Mining’s Ghana Operations
The Lands and Natural Resources Minister commended Zijin Mining for its contributions to Ghana during its first year of operations.
He highlighted the company’s support for land reclamation, afforestation, healthcare and education initiatives, describing them as signs of its commitment to Ghana and its communities.
However, he encouraged the company to deepen its support for local communities and businesses as its operations expand.
Zijin Pledges Stronger Investment in Ghana
Responding to the Minister, Lin Hongfu pledged to strengthen Zijin Mining’s operations in Ghana by deploying the company’s global expertise, technology and best industry practices.
He said the company, which operates in 17 countries outside China, would also introduce electric vehicles into its Ghanaian operations as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
The discussions form part of Ghana’s broader efforts to position the country as an attractive destination for international investment while encouraging mining companies to contribute meaningfully to local development and environmental sustainability.
