Petroleum prices at fuel stations are expected to record marginal increases from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC).
The expected adjustments are likely to affect petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), despite a recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.
COPEC’s analysis indicates that international crude oil prices recorded a marginal decline during the current pricing window, falling from $90.41 to $89.30 per barrel.
Over the same period, the Ghana cedi appreciated against the US dollar, with the average interbank exchange rate improving from GH¢11.80 to GH¢11.5166 to US$1, representing an appreciation of approximately 2.39 per cent.
Despite these favourable developments, COPEC says changes in the Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products are expected to push pump prices upward in the next pricing window.
Petrol
COPEC projects that petrol could sell at approximately GH¢16.21 per litre, representing an estimated 5 per cent increase from the current mean pump price of GH¢15.43 per litre.
Motorists could therefore pay more at filling stations from September 1 if Oil Marketing Companies adjust their prices in line with prevailing market conditions.
Diesel
Diesel is also expected to record a marginal increase.
COPEC projects the price at approximately GH¢17.61 per litre, up from the current mean price of GH¢17.17 per litre.
This represents an estimated increase of 2.58 per cent.
LPG
Liquefied Petroleum Gas is similarly expected to see a marginal rise.
COPEC estimates that LPG could sell at approximately GH¢14.19 per kilogramme during the next pricing window.
The projected increases come despite the recent appreciation of the cedi and slight decline in global crude oil prices, highlighting the influence of refined petroleum product prices on local fuel costs.
