Kwabena Agyepong Warns: Red Lines Crossed in NPP Race, Urges Restraint

Former NPP General Secretary and flagbearer aspirant Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has cautioned fellow contenders and their supporters to avoid personal attacks as delegates vote in today’s high-stakes presidential primary.

Speaking to Channel One TV’s Hanson Agyemang at the NPP headquarters on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Agyepong said excessive hostility could damage party unity and public image.

“I think that some red lines have been crossed. There are five of us contesting. At the end of the day, only one person will be elected; five cannot go into one,” he said.

He urged everyone to remain decorous, civil and careful in their language, stressing that intemperate remarks could have long-term consequences.

“So people have to be very decorous, civil, and careful about what they say about others. At the end of the day, you don’t know who will win; we are all hoping that the winner is us,” he added.

Agyepong emphasised that the primary’s ultimate goal is to produce a candidate who can unite the party and win the confidence of Ghanaians in 2028.

“After we win, we should be able to represent our party well to earn the respect and the confidence of the Ghanaian people,” he said.

He questioned how the party could effectively campaign if internal rivalries turn into personal vilification.

“If you have lambasted and said things that are unprintable about your fellow, how do we then go and sell the person?” he asked.

The comments come amid concerns that the 2026 NPP campaign has been one of the most acrimonious in recent years, with sustained attacks and counter-attacks among some camps.

Agyepong’s call for restraint echoes earlier appeals from party leaders for discipline, unity and peaceful competition during today’s vote.
