Kasoa South Communities Remain Without Power Five Days After Floods

Residents in parts of Kasoa South in the Central Region have been without electricity for five days following the heavy rains and flooding that struck several parts of Ghana on Monday, June 29, 2026.
The outage, which began at about 10:00 a.m. during the downpour, has affected communities around the Mother and Child enclave and Aquilla Bakery, including Poultry Junction, Jerusalem Gate and the Saudi Mosque.
Although electricity has been restored to parts of the main stretch, including the Mother and Child area and Aquilla Bakery, several inner communities remain without power.
Residents say repeated attempts to obtain updates from the (ECG) have yielded little information.
According to residents, ECG officials indicated on Wednesday that an engineer would be assigned to assess the fault. While the engineer confirmed plans to visit the affected area, subsequent follow-up calls reportedly went unanswered.
ECG later informed residents that the outage was caused by a faulty transformer and explained that the local office was awaiting directives from its Cape Coast office before repair works could begin.
Officials also stated that they could not provide a timeline for the restoration of electricity until further instructions were received.
On Thursday evening, ECG representatives toured parts of the affected communities with a megaphone, assuring residents that the company was aware of the problem and working to resolve it. However, no date was given for the restoration of power.
The prolonged outage has forced residents to rely on commercial charging points to keep their mobile phones powered, while businesses, including food vendors and cold store operators, say they are suffering financial losses due to food spoilage and disruptions to their daily operations.
The blackout follows widespread flooding in parts of the Central and Volta Regions, raising fresh concerns about the vulnerability of electricity infrastructure during periods of heavy rainfall.
As of Friday, July 3, 2026, electricity had not been restored to the affected communities, leaving residents uncertain about when power supply will resume.
