Kasoa Building Collapse: Trapped Worker Rescued After Two-Hour Operation

A harrowing rescue operation at Kasoa New Market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Central Region, successfully freed a construction worker trapped under a collapsed building on October 11, 2025, after more than two hours of intense efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered a severe leg injury when the front section of a residential building under renovation gave way, pinning him beneath heavy debris.
Paramedics from the National Ambulance Service provided on-site pain relief and emergency care to stabilize him during the extraction, which involved carefully removing rubble to avoid further harm.
He was immediately rushed to Kasoa Polyclinic before transfer to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for advanced treatment.
Two colleagues escaped unharmed, but the incident has heightened safety fears at the site.
The building owner, Ali Charles, had hired three masons to reinforce the structure after noticing cracks, but the collapse occurred unexpectedly during work.
Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini praised the responders: “We are grateful to God and to the team from the Fire Service and the Ambulance Service. They really discharged their duties professionally.
A medical team was on standby at the Polyclinic to receive the victim immediately after his rescue.”
The Municipal NADMO office and Works and Engineering Department are investigating the cause, with the site now cordoned off and occupants evacuated for safety.
This tragedy underscores ongoing construction risks in rapidly urbanizing areas like Kasoa, where substandard materials and poor oversight have led to similar incidents, including a 2024 collapse in nearby Domeabra that injured five.
Local authorities have renewed calls for stricter building regulations and inspections to prevent future disasters.
