Interior Minister Commissions Four New Patrol Boats for Marine Police in Tema

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned four ultra-modern patrol boats for the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service at a ceremony held in Tema.
The new vessels are expected to significantly boost Ghana’s maritime security capabilities, enhance border protection along the country’s coastline, and combat rising threats including piracy, illegal fishing, smuggling, and trafficking on Ghanaian waters.
Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized that securing Ghana’s maritime domain is critical to national security and economic prosperity, especially with the growing importance of the blue economy and offshore oil and gas operations.
He described the acquisition of the boats as a strategic investment in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial waters and supporting regional maritime cooperation.
The four high-speed patrol boats are equipped with advanced navigation systems, communication equipment, and enhanced operational range, enabling the Marine Police to respond more effectively to incidents at sea.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who received the boats on behalf of the service, thanked the government for the continued support and assured that the new assets will be deployed immediately to strengthen patrols along the Gulf of Guinea.
The event was attended by senior police commanders, officials from the Ghana Navy, port authorities, and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
