IGP Assures Fairness in Police Promotional Exams, Urges Candidates to Excel

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has encouraged chief inspectors preparing for this year’s Police Competitive Promotional Exams (PCPE) to give their best as they compete for admission into the Police Academy.
He emphasized that the examination process would be strictly merit-based, assuring candidates that only performance will determine selection.
Speaking ahead of the exams, the IGP dismissed rumours of favouritism, urging candidates to remain focused and adhere to all examination guidelines.
“On behalf of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council, I wish all the candidates well in this year’s examination. It is only your performance that will speak for you,” he stated.
The Ghana Police Service leadership reiterated that no individual or group would be given undue advantage, stressing that all candidates will be assessed fairly.
Mr. Yohuno acknowledged the highly competitive nature of the exams, noting that although all candidates are qualified, limited slots are available at the Police Academy.
This year, the Police Administration has approved all 7,500 chief inspectors nationwide to sit for the examination, which is expected to produce the next batch of senior officers.
The exams are scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026, at three centres in Accra.
Ahead of the exams, candidates will undergo briefing and orientation by the University of Cape Coast at the National Police Training School grounds. Orientation materials have also been distributed to guide candidates on examination procedures.
According to the Police Administration, only the first 700 candidates in order of merit will be selected to form Cadet Course 54 and Cadet Course 55.
The selection process will be conducted in line with the Police Service Regulations (CI 76), which also allows for special recommendations and direct entry for candidates with relevant academic qualifications.
