Two Seriously Injured After Wall Collapse at Wawasi in Obuasi East – One in Critical Condition

Two people have sustained serious injuries, with one in critical condition, after a wall collapsed at Wawasi in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Thursday when the victims — a man and a woman — were reportedly sitting in front of a house. The structure suddenly gave way, burying them under the debris.

Eyewitness Joseph Appiah said the victims were immediately rushed to the AGA Health Foundation for treatment. Due to the severity of the injuries, one of them was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for specialised care, while the other remains in stable condition at the AGA Hospital.

A relative of the victims, Yaa Kunadu, who was selling food nearby at the time, confirmed that the two were not engaged in any activity when the wall collapsed.

The family has appealed to the government and relevant authorities to intervene, specifically calling for the removal of a telecommunications mast mounted on the building. They believe the mast, reportedly belonging to Globacom, may have contributed to the structural failure and continues to pose a risk to residents in the area.

This latest incident has once again raised concerns about building safety and the mounting of heavy telecom infrastructure on residential or weakly constructed buildings in parts of the Ashanti Region.

Investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
