Government Plans Lasting Legacy From Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Campaign – Adams

Government intends to ensure that Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup leaves a tangible and lasting legacy, with proceeds from the tournament earmarked for structured development projects, according to Adams.
He explained that funds accrued from the World Cup would be channelled into clearly defined initiatives, particularly infrastructure, that citizens can physically identify and associate with Ghana’s appearance at the global showpiece.
“Once it goes into the fund, there will be structured utilisation. So we can, for the first time, have infrastructure or edifices that we can point to, that out of the World Cup, this is what we were able to do,” he said.
The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and Adams noted that government is determined to ensure Ghana’s involvement goes beyond participation to deliver measurable national benefits.
“So we intend to have projects that we can show that in our participation in the USA, Canada and Mexico World Cup 2026, this is what we were able to do,” he added.
Adams also highlighted the significant financial rewards tied to progression in the tournament, expressing optimism about the Black Stars’ prospects. He noted that advancing through each stage brings increased prize money, which could further support national development efforts.
“If you qualify for the next round of the 32 teams, you get an additional $3 million. And if you move further, you get an additional $4 million. So the further you go, the better it will be for you,” he explained.
Confident in the team’s current form, Adams said he believes Ghana has the potential to make a deep run at the tournament, adding, “We just have to perform, and I believe that we can be among the top four.”
