Ghanaian Passport Holders Can Now Travel Visa-Free to Maldives, Zambia, Antigua and Barbuda

Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda without obtaining entry visas, following the ratification and entry into force of visa waiver agreements between Ghana and the three countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a public notice dated September 8, 2026, confirming that the arrangements cover ordinary, service and diplomatic passport holders.

According to the Ministry, eligible Ghanaian passport holders may travel to the three destinations without obtaining an entry visa, subject to the terms and conditions of the respective agreements.

Different stay periods apply

Under the new arrangements, Ghanaians travelling to the Maldives and Zambia may stay for a maximum of 30 days without a visa.

Those travelling to Antigua and Barbuda, however, may stay for up to 90 days.

The Ministry stressed that visa-free access does not exempt travellers from meeting the immigration and entry requirements of the destination countries.

Travellers must carry a valid passport and any other documents required by the relevant authorities and must not exceed the permitted period of stay.

Work and study still require approval

The Ministry also clarified that the visa waiver does not automatically cover Ghanaians travelling for employment, study, residence or other activities requiring specific authorisation.

Such travellers must obtain the appropriate approval before travelling.

Ghanaians have also been advised to confirm current entry, health and other applicable requirements with the relevant authorities or Ghana’s nearest embassy or high commission in the destination country, as requirements may change.

Part of Ghana’s bilateral relations

The Ministry said the new arrangements form part of efforts to facilitate the movement of Ghanaian citizens while strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations with international partners.

It reiterated its commitment to “facilitating the movement of Ghanaian citizens and strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations with partner countries.”
