The Ghana Prisons Service has commissioned its first-ever television station, Ghana Prisons TV, as part of efforts to strengthen public engagement and improve communication about its work and mandate.
The station was officially commissioned on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Prisons Headquarters in Accra.
The ceremony brought together dignitaries, stakeholders, partners and staff of the Ghana Prisons Service, highlighting the growing role of strategic communication in promoting the activities and programmes of the Service.
New platform for public engagement
The establishment of Ghana Prisons TV is expected to provide the Service with a dedicated platform to communicate directly with the public and showcase its activities, programmes and initiatives.
The station will also seek to improve public understanding of the prison system and the broader mandate of the Ghana Prisons Service.
Tourism Minister attends commissioning
The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, served as the Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning ceremony.
The launch marks a new chapter in the Service’s efforts to adopt modern media platforms to engage the public and communicate its work.
Through Ghana Prisons TV, the Service is expected to have greater control over how its activities, reforms and programmes are communicated while creating a direct channel for public outreach.
