GHA Announces Safety Measures on Dzorwulu Footbridge After Truck Damage

The Ghana Highway Authority has announced temporary safety measures on the Dzorwulu Footbridge following structural damage caused by a vehicular impact.

According to the Authority, an emergency inspection conducted in February 2026 revealed that a lowbed truck transporting heavy equipment struck the bridge, resulting in minor structural damage and a slight shift in its superstructure.

Although the bridge remains intact, officials warn that the damage poses potential safety risks to both pedestrians and motorists if not addressed promptly.

As part of immediate interventions, controlled access will be implemented on the footbridge while urgent repair works are carried out.

The planned works will include structural repairs to affected sections, rehabilitation of the walking surface, and reinforcement of safety features such as handrails.

Repair activities are scheduled to take place from April 17 to April 24, 2026, with authorities aiming to minimise disruption to traffic flow in the area.

The GHA also indicated that additional preventive measures will be introduced, including the installation of height restriction signage and stricter monitoring of over-height vehicles to avoid future incidents.

The Authority has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining safe infrastructure and urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations, particularly those concerning vehicle height limits.
