GFA Parts Ways with Technical Advisor Winfried Schäfer Amid Black Stars Reshuffle

The Ghana Football Association has reportedly parted ways with Black Stars technical advisor Winfried Schäfer as part of ongoing restructuring within the senior national team’s technical setup.

Schäfer, who joined the team in late 2024 to support Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, exits shortly after Addo’s dismissal.

The decision forms part of broader efforts by the GFA to rebuild the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sources indicate that further changes are expected, with the incoming head coach likely to be given full authority to assemble his own technical team.

Several high-profile coaches have already been linked to the vacant role, including Slaven Bilić, Carlos Queiroz, and Fernando Santos.

The GFA is expected to announce a new head coach soon, with the successful candidate facing the challenge of preparing the team within a limited timeframe for the upcoming World Cup.
